Although not completely proven, CBD oil has a lot of medical benefits both for human beings and dogs. Research is still ongoing but there are certain confirmations that say how beneficial CBD oil can be for use.

Currently, CBD oil has been useful in treating pain, anxiety, arthritis, seizures, and even cancer. Actually, its benefits in treating cancer are still not that great, but there are researches that confirm that it can be used in cancer prevention if used.

For now, CBD oil is great in relaxing your dog and certain has a way in helping an old dog get through the pains that they may have. Its primary use in treating dogs is for the ones that suffer from arthritis which comes in the late stages of a dog’s life.

How Much CBD Oil Should I Give my Dog?

When it comes to dosage, you should consult the instructions given on every CBD oil products. First of all, you should know that there are many products with various levels of CBD. Different products come with a higher or smaller concentration of cannabidiol. So, for instance, on you can see products that contain 5%, but others that go to 10% or even 15% of cannabidiol. The more it has the lesser dosage you should consider giving your dog. So, you have to read labels well and to know what is the concentration of cannabidiol in the oil you want to give your pooch.

Although almost all products come with clear instructions on how to use and which dosage to use there are some that don’t. If that is the case, start from small and build your way up to a higher dose. So

Using CBD oil for dogs for medicinal purposes usually depends on the weight. As a rule, 0.2mg of CBD per pound is more than enough. But you also need to take into account how many milligrams (mg) of CBD are in each milliliter (ml) of oil and how much to give your dog. This depends on the percentage of cannabidiol. For example, 150mg formula=5mg of CBD per ml of oil.

So if you have a 25-pound dog that requires 5mg of CBD, you should give it 2ml of the 75mg formula, 1ml of the 150mg formula, 0.5ml of the 300mg formula.

Can a Vet Prescribe CBD Oil for my Dog?

Unfortunately, veterinarians are not allowed to prescribe CBD oil to dogs nor humans as an official remedy. They simply do not have the capacity to prescribe you a prescription.

The only thing that they can do is to offer it as a piece of advice that you may or may not choose to follow. Vets are completely free to talk to you about the benefits and potential risks that taking CBD oil can have. You can purchase it on your own and use it apparently. Since there are no official studies that confirm the benefits of CBD oil for both dog and human prescriptions are not going to be possible for the time being.
